Shawn Giammattei, PhD

Dr. Shawn V Giammattei is a licensed family psychologist in Northern California, who specializes in couple and family therapy with a focus on the treatment of gender incongruence in children, adolescents and adults, as well as lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender couple and family issues. As a narratively informed, culturally-attuned, psychologist, he works collaboratively with clients to find solutions to the problems that are negatively impacting their lives and relationships. He provides services in different locations and formats to make therapy more accessible to his clients. He maintains private practice offices in San Francisco and Sonoma County, provides in-home services, Telehealth services throughout the state of California, and gender and relationship coaching both nationally and internationally. His approach to therapy is affirming, trauma-informed, interactive, systemic, neuro-affirming and collaborative. He integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized experience that is tailored to each client, relationship, or family’s needs. While his practice is primarily relationship focused, he also helps individuals working through trauma using several therapeutic modalities (Narrative, Ecotherpy, Gottman, EFCT, EMDR, IFS, CBT, DBT, etc.), including preparation and integration with psychedelic assisted therapies. Dr. Giammattei is an SOC8 certified gender specialist and mentor for the World Professional Association for Transgender Health and is on faculty for their Global Education Institute. As a gender specialist, he has expertise in gender affirming care and evaluations for children, adolescents, adults, parent counseling, couple counseling, as well as education & support for families navigating a gender journey.
